WHAT A DAY TO GIVE IT ALL

The day started out no different than any other day. Doing a few jobs for Guardian and then heading to meet Diane for a meeting at 11:00. Then off to the ranch to meet with Larry and Caleb to drop off some supplies and go over some of the work they were doing. Larry and Caleb have been doing such a wonderful job getting work done in the lodge and setting up the new cross shop in the Main shop. Soon and very soon we will be manufacturing crosses again as we are so far behind and there are so many stores that waiting and we're so far behind in that area.
So much snow to plow throug with our little van at the ranch but we made it through and back on the highway heading to unity. On our way to unity we had to stop drilling rig to pick up some tools, And that's when things started to get real interesting. One snowbank after another and one really big snowbank but we did make it through. Soon though we had no power steering and the battery light came on and from there on things went worse and worse. By the time we pulled in the engineers shack we had lost most power and our temperature guage was out of whack we knew we had trouble on our hands. Soon the van died and we were stuck so what to do now nothing more than just give it all up put it in Jesus hands. Well when you seek first the kingdom of God that's where the answers are and within a few minutes we had a tow truck and a friend on the way to help us get back on the road. We have about an hour and a half wait for Jim to get there with his tow truck so we have a lot of times to share with the engineer and his consultant about the ranch and what we're up to. Shortly thereafter Jim showed up hooked up to our van and we're on the road thinking we're heading for the ranch but instead he took us two N. Battleford. The temperature outside was well below -30 and we had a brisk wind and a lot of snowbanks to deal with but soon we're pulling into North Battleford for something warm to drink and friends waiting. Warm shop awaited us and we got the van in and started to work on it our main belt at flowen off and the engine area was packed with snow. After getting the belt back on and getting the battery charged and the engine started we found we had no front heater fan. Without hesitation God provided more help when a friend donated their van and would take ours for repairs the next morning and get it fixed God is so incredibly good. So there we were 1 AM in the morning heading from North Battleford Dodsland almost 2 Hour drive. As usual Diane I spent the timesharing and praising the Lord for his many blessings and the incredible opportunities we had in the twists and turns that only God could provide to make the day of honoring and glorifying him on every way.
Well it's 3:30 AM Time to hit the sack and we are so blessed as tomorrow more meetings and opportunities to share more about the many blessings God is preparing at the ranch to help so many young people to find their place in society and the workplace.

BLESSINGS UPON BLESSINGS

The incredible presence of God in His people as together we worship and praise His love for all mankind. A theme of the heart of God a heart that loves and shares and can only pour out love. A great truth shared of a young man of God who would not compromise his walk and testimony to serve God in bringing truth and hope to a lost generation. Who was eventually brutally destroyed ministry and all by the church. We are being challenged to be the word and love of Christ, un compromised in building the kingdom of God and not a kingdom of man. To daily pickup our cross and walk that cross of hope and love out into a world of darkness.

DRIPPY TAPS drip drip drip

Not to many of us out there that haven't experienced a set of drippy taps. And believe it or not they are not too hard to fix.  But before we go to fixin a set of taps please be aware that some drippy taps cannot be fixed only tossed out into the garbage. No use wasting a moment on them and we will explain why. Often we become attached to a set of drippy taps because we don't want to deal with them, we ignore the constant dripping and marks in the sink. The swelling of the counter top and the fact that we need to hold on to the whole shebango as they are so loose and ready to fall off. By this time the whole counter is most likely shot as well as the taps.
The best time to deal with a drippy tap is as soon as you have to put a pipe wrench on the handle to get them to turn off and stop that dripping.  Just kidding but as soon as you have to put extra force on the handle to get them to stop it's time to do some minor repairs.
Most taps are really simple to work on with the use of only a few basic tools. A multi screw driver an adjustable wrench, pair of players, a set of large allan wrenches, plumbers grease or any lip balm will work just fine and some patience.
Now the first and a very important step is to turn off the water which in most cases can be done directly under the sink. Keep an old towel around the work area to catch any water that may appear. If you get some water dripping from around the shut off valve it is usually because the packing nut needs to be tightened and that will solve that problem for you. Now if you get more water than a cloth can dab up you may be in trouble but that happens rarely but mind you can happen. Now open the taps half way and leave them there to drain away any pressure and to be sure you have the water off.  After removing the hot and cold caps you will find a screw either philips or common.  Remove the screw and then carefully wiggle the handle off and set the right hand parts to the right and the left hand parts to the left. Once the handles are off  you will need your adjustable wrench to remove the cartridge or cartridge collar nut. once this is done and the cartridge has been removed examine it and see if the washer and O rings needs replacing on the bottom or if it has no washer than you may need to take a picture and go get a new cartridge at your local hardware store.  Also look down inside and if the brass seat down there looks eaten away by erosion if it is it will have to be removed with your large allen wrench and replaced also, often very tight and need a real pull to loosen. Please know where your nearest plumbing shop or hardware store is.
Once you have all the parts and you have covered them with grease or blistex you can put it all back together tighten, replace the handles and turn the water back on, SLOWLY and see what happens. If this is you first attempt to fix some thing as high tech as a set of taps maybe do one at a time. But I know if this is successful you will be hanging a shingle on your door and soon all the neighbours will be getting you to repair their taps and you could quit your other low paying job.
If you have any questions do not be afraid to contact your local friendly neighbourhood plumber they are always more than willing to help you get the job done right. PS if they seem mean or grumpy just give them a big hug and say how you want your son to be a plumber some day just like them. Also every hardware store usually has someone that will help. God bless and hopefully you know how to pray. PS Don't be a drippy tap.

WHAT DOES INCENTIVE LOOK LIKE?

Discover the purpose           Mentor the youth           Hope for the family          Empower the ministry

A life can change in a moment. Whether it be quick like a lightning strike or slow like water gradually overtaking a river bank, a life can be completely transformed and really no one knows when that moment might be.

In a world so full of brokenness, We too are broken people in need of saving grace and love. God's love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, 1 Cor. 13:7. Having discerned this truth in my own life, I've realized what a shame it would be if I kept it for myself. The men who've taken the time to communicate this good news of Jesus to me in my younger years have been a powerful force in shaping who I am today. I am deeply grateful to God for each and everyone of them.

Based on my own life experience and working at the Battle River Ranch Camp, I know now there are few people in this world that do not desire such intimate friendship and community. I recognize that assuming the role of a mentor in the life of another is one of the most important acts of tangible love anyone can give. None of us has a right to neglect this call.

No matter what expression or attitude a youth wears, mentoring can make such a difference and have many different faces. Just spending time with another, whether they're heart is whole or broken, empty or abandoned, is a wonderful gift. Sometimes the gift is simply knowing your loved unconditionally.

As our God, the great harvester, plants seeds, he privileges his people to be the farmers in his kingdom actively involved in caring for the new followers of Jesus Christ. God designed mankind to live in community. We need to support each other and be careful to protect and care for the new believers in our midst. Whether the harvest comes quickly or years are spent tending and cultivating, we can rest in the truth that hope is not confined to a season.

This growing phase leads me to consider all the gifts poured into my heart. Combined they have produced personal fruit in my life,  fruit that could rot if not invested into the heart and life of another. I can give testimony to the transformation brokenness undergoes when planted in the rich soil of God's love, something redeeming is produced. When such love is then sown in the heart of a young adult, we get to witness something not only redeeming, but something beautiful as well as confident.

There's still a lot of Hope

Discover the purpose           Mentor the child           Hope for the family          Empower the ministry

I recently read something that someone had learned through personal Bible study. She related the unique placement of the sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. Less than 100 miles apart, both are located in the area region of the Jordan River Valley and both are far below sea level.
Yet, their similarities end there.

One body of water teams with life and activity, and the other is completely dead. The reason? Both seas have an inflow of fresh water, but only one has an overflow. Only one pours back out from the wealth that has been poured within.
Only one streams out its abundance in the form of a river. In doing so, the sea of Galilee flourishes with fish, wildlife and humanity. While the Dead Sea, with no outlet, is toxic choking out life with an overabundance of salt and minerals.

Life is full of choices. What's happening to the abundance poured into your life?
The truth of Jesus repeated in Acts 20:35 is clear, it is better to give than to receive. Once we received the life-giving grace of our Lord, We get to choose, hmmm if were going to live this life like a river or a lake. One stores, one pours. One risks inactivity toxicity, even death, and one rushes to deliver life, carrying hope to everyplace it can reach.

Daily, we each get to choose if we'll live like a lake by keeping our gifts; if you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it Luke 9:24a. Or, we can choose to live like a river by giving our wealth to those around us in hardship; But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life Luke 9:24b.

Joy really is found in giving what we have to those who need hope. I saw this simple truth in action years ago when I was a 14 year old kid in a broken home. Our neighbour across the alley came over one summer morning and offered me a job.  During the summer months he taught me life and plumbing skills that I had never seen, and as he was a Christian man I saw a way of life like never before. Today after 36 years of being a plumber we have four sons that are also very good plumbers with strong solid families, and two beautiful daughters and nine grandchildren. Thank you Jim Hingston for giving what you had to make a difference in a kids life.

If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving large or small it will be used to measure what is given back to you Luke 6:38
If God's creation so clearly examples this truth, shouldn't we as well? Are we living like a lake or river? Which are you? Which am I? Are we hoarding the gifts freely poured into our lives, or, are we carrying the hope of Christ to those in need around us?

Offering hope for the family is one of the missions of the battle River Ranch. This last year it was our great joy to allow the gifts you poured into this ranch, to flow right on through to the families in our midst who needed help. Because of your selfless generosity and the abundance of God, the flood gates were opened wider than ever and the life-giving hope and provision of Jesus poured out Like a river too many.

Thank you, dear family, for sharing with us. Together like a rush of individual tributaries, you've united through the Battle River Ranch. Now, the Lord is releasing this extraordinary confidence and hope as part of his beautiful plan. And from his perspective I'm pretty sure the ranch looks just like a river.
