Wednesday Report

Can you imagine a life immersed, saturated totally lived under the banner of playing it safe. I guess it might not be so bad, one would never have to worry about ulcers or runny bowels. I suppose you would sleep different, also no need for sleeping pills, chamomile tea or prayer. Even driving would be different I suppose you would sort of just drive no real challenge or need for the conquering spirit and you would never entertain passing-------anyone. I remember years ago as I was attempting to build our first home my father said what do you know about building a house, play it safe save your money and just buy something you can afford. Wow that was 4 house ago, and today our sons can build their own homes. I remember when We accepted the Lord into our lives years ago we could have played it safe and sat on the fence but no, went both feet in and all the way across the fence and boy oh boy is the grass greener or what, so I guess what I'm trying to say is, the only way to play it safe is if the definition of playing it safe is putting your whole life and everything in it into the ams and care of Jesus and follow His example of playing it safe. But even that could be more than most can handle. But I tell you, for the time of your life and reason to live you have got to give Jesus a chance.

Tuesday's Trivia

Another busy but blessed day. We need so much to continue to do what we can to make this project all come together. Praise the Lord God is in control of it all. He sure does provide and take care of us. He opens the doors so we know which way to go. So be sure to cover yourself in prayer, always, as the enemy roars around like a roaring lion, and you never know where he'll show up next.

Ephesians 4:11-14 (New International Version)

"11It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming."

Mondays momentum

Spent the day preparing for this evenings ranch board meeting, meeting with Emile about equipment to start moving ground and digging a dugout at the ranch. Then a bit of yard work for a break. As usual the board meeting went over very well. We had a lot on the agenda and were able to cover it all and be done shortly after 9:00. Moving ahead on a project that will do so much and make such a difference in so many lives is an incredible opportunity as God directs the hearts of so many to accomplish His plan. It's amazing how much God loves us, if we only put our trust in Him and give Him a chance. I don't think it matters what language He says it in it still means the same.

Sunday-CAN'T BEAT THAT DAY

Had a great visit with a local businessman not long ago and he patiently listened to all I had to say about the ranch plan. I managed to go over the usual start to finish materials and through it all he hardly said a word. So hear I am thinking to myself that this guy is going to be glad when I get this spiel done and he gets me out of here. But to my surprise once I was done he had some great input and was not afraid to share it with me. He said he was not a church goer but as he observed the young people of today he has noticed that the computer and more so computer games has taken away self worth and that our young people see nothing but negativity in everything. He said they need soul food and some self-worth activities. He said parents today no matter if they are church goers or not are too lazy to get involved in their kids lives, and the kids have become the devil's domain. He explained that the computer games leave no self worth that lasts and that is why they become so addicted as it fills a void for a very short time and they soon want more and more of this destructive input. And worse he said is parents that sit for hours on the computer teaching their children how to waste your life away.
He said healthy kids play street hockey, build go carts, cut the lawn or shovel the sidewalk and help around the yard or spend time helping a neighbour. When all this is done with the father involved, it builds character and self-worth that lasts.
As it happened I attended the funeral of a friend not long after this conversation with the business man and I chose to stay and look after our grandkids in the playroom for a while. There was a young man sitting in the playroom about 14 years old watching his little sister. I started to talk to him, asking were he was from and so on. I asked him if he had any hobbies or sports that he was involved in and he said yes, but on video games only. He said that he was good at the games but that his dad was really good at them all, in fact he said my dad is a PS-3 maniac. Now I'm not sure what that means but he did say that the day before on family day his dad played all day and after asking his dad if he could play with him the father said in a minute. Several hours later at the end of the day the father gave him the machine and went to bed and that was family day at this home. So, no wonder we need a place for our youth to learn a trade or some life skills.
Dad's, get out there and do some physical activity with your kids, they really love that time with you!
Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Saturday surprise

Have you ever marveled at something, and if you're not sure where I am going with this then first let me tell you what my dictionary says about the meaning of MARVEL. Marvel something wonderful; an astonishing thing, To be filled with wonder, to be astonished, extraordinary, excellent, splendid and fine and the best of all has to be awesome. Well if you're having trouble finding anything to marvel at, you have got to take some time to visit and see what God is doing 50 km's or 27 miles south of Lloydminster on hwy. 17. This is the location of the Battle River Ranch Camp. I know there was a time in my life years ago that all this talk about God doing this and God doing that made me really squirm and uncomfortable, but like I said earlier, if you are looking for something to marvel at give God a chance. He has got such a plan for each and everyone of us and that includes you. I remember the ex drunk doper that told me to give God a chance, try Him at His Word and give Him totally all my life for just 6 months and watch what happens. You will marvel at who you will become. At that point, if you are not comfortable with an extraordinary life filled with more excitement and fulfilment than you have ever had in your life, and without any regrets, then you can go back to the old life. It will be waiting for you, maybe that's where you are comfortable and find the most peace, some believe it or not do.

John 5:20 "For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows Him all things that He himself does. He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel." KJV

John 5:20 (New International Version)

20"For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show Him even greater things than these."

Have you ever wanted to walk, talk and breath easier, do you ever feel you have such a weight on your shoulders that you can barely go on another day or another Minute then try the 6 month challenge cause right now and right here you can drop that heavy load at the feet of Jesus, the foot of His cross, and step out from under that load that is and has kept you from being all that you were created to be.

Miracle of the day:
My beautiful wife Diane and I and with the help of our neighbours got most of our house plants re-potted. Also a good friend is letting us use his template to build the concrete forms for the shop at the ranch, so picked that up this afternoon.
Another wonderful blessing was meeting a young vacuum saleswoman
who cleaned the carpet in the basement and did a great job. Thanks Michelle!

See you all at church tomorrow. If you're afraid to go, don't be! We talked to a friend that went to church for the first time in years and he said I was amazed at who all I saw there. It's the best place to be if you need to unload and be recharged. P.T.L.

WHY YOU NEED TO GIVE JESUS A CHANCE
#1
Because you have a past
You can't go back, but He can. The Bible says, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8) He can walk into those places of sin and failure, wipe the slate clean and give you a new beginning.
#2
Because you need a friend
Jesus knows the worst about you, yet he believes the best. Why? Because He sees you not as you are, but as you will be when He gets through with you. What a friend!
#3
Because He holds the future
Who else are you going to trust? In his hands you are safe and secure - today, tomorrow and for eternity. His word says, "For I know the plans I have for you ...plans for good and not evil, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray I will listen". (Jeremiah 29:11-13 TLB)

If you'd like to start over, with a new beginning with Jesus today, Diane, I, the board of directors, volunteers and supporters of Crossman Ministries and the Battle River Ranch Camp would ask you to please pray this prayer:

LORD JESUS CHRIST
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. I ask Your forgiveness and now turn from everything that I know is wrong. Thank You for dying on the cross for me to set me free from my sins. Please come into my life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and be with me forever. Thankyou Lord Jesus, Amen.

If you have made this commitment and would like to make contact, please call us. We'd love to talk to you and help in any way we can.

We are praying for all of you reading this blog every day.

Fridays Frenzy

Well we finally made it out to the ranch today with the load of lumber on the trailer. Glenda met us with the tractor and we got it all unloaded safe and sound. Today we also did some measurement checks on building locations and all still seems to be in place. Back to the city and met with Melissa to go over the plans for the barn and did some finishing on the site plan. We then met with Gary and Diane for supper and Gary explained how to build grade beam forms and said that he has a template at his place that we can borrow, so tomorrow we'll head out and pick that up from him. We had a great Email from an author last night that would like to use the ranch miracle in a book she's writing. It's amazing how God works as this same lady did an interview with us over 10 years ago about the semi ministry and included us in a book she was writing then. Now she would like to put us into her next book with the ranch ministry. Wow! God just keeps on blessing us as we keep our focus on building His Kingdom. A mechanic friend of ours stopped at the house with a SRT 10 Dodge pickup (viper engine and all) well the boys had a whale of a time looking at this baby.

2 Corinthians 1:2 (New International Version)

2Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

One day, a man went to visit a church. He got there early, parked his car and got out. Another car pulled up near him. The driver got out and said, 'I always park there! You took my place!'

The visitor went inside for Sunday School, found an empty seat and sat down. A young lady from the church approached him and stated, 'That's my seat! You took my place!' The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing.

After Sunday school, the visitor went into the sanctuary and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, 'That's where I always sit! You took my place!'

The visitor was even more troubled by this treatment, but still He said nothing.

Later as the congregation was praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from the congregation noticed him and called out, 'What happened to you?'

The visitor replied, as his hat became a crown of thorns, and a tear fell from his eye, "I took your place."'

Thank you for taking the time to view our blog. Battle River Ranch Camp is a non profit organization that is focused on developing trades and life skills, training opportunities for men and women that are searching and find it hard to get the opportunity to develop a productive life skill. Many men and women today have no idea what they could be good at or how to find out their possible skill area or level. We are a faith based training center. Harold and Diane Stephan left a life filled with addictions and their journey has taken them through different twelve step programs and life recovery through a relationship and healing process with Jesus Christ. We would love to hear from you and if you feel this is a program and facility that you would like to be more involved with or support financially we would love to talk to you.

Thursday the day of change

Local alderman, Merv Loewen said "show the picture of that plan and you'll get whatever you need to build that ranch." And was he ever right. As Diane and I share the ranch project vision and purpose and how it will serve as a place to build and rebuild lives that will become positive and productive members of society. We have yet to be discouraged with how it encourages and brings hope to us, a concerned and aging generation. It's not too late for those that will take over after we step down. More and more we hear, "yes, this is what is needed. What can we do to help?"
As money, materials and equipment are being donated and workers prepare to work side by side to build a facility that will be proof that we care about our young men and women. That with the right opportunties and training we will be a better, stronger and safer society and that's what hope is all about. God Bless and thank you all. Hope to see you at the ranch. PS-We have a lot of folks already making cookies to serve those at the ranch with a great cup of coffee and warm, welcoming hearts

New addition to our product line as we teach steel work. We have started to build coat stands that are strong, sturdy and attractive. They come in 4' or 6' and right now we can't keep up with the demand.

Concrete is on it's way as friends have taken on the task of calling on colleges and local business associates to help us with the foundation on the big main shop.
Thanks so much to all volunteers
who give their time so willingly.
Thanks to all who have been donating
concrete and all the other hundreds of things being donated. God is so good!

Psalm 71:18 "Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation your might to all who are to come."

Wednesday Report

Can't believe another month has passed and it's the Ranch board meeting again on Monday. I'm not so sure that 2 hours will cut it for much longer as we have so many exciting things to go over and discuss. Had a great opportunity to share the ranch plan with a couple of very respected local businesses this afternoon.
This morning I dropped Diane off at an appointment and while I was waiting for her to finish. I was blessed again to be able to share the ranch plan and update the folks in the waiting room on how everything is progressing. Surprise, surprise I just happened to have some info with me, to pass on to them all. Go figure.
We then headed to Atco Electric and started the process of getting power installed at the ranch, God is so good.
The assistance for non profit organizations
is even better then it would have been if
we had gotten it done last year when
we had first tried to.
As I write this, the battle for the hearts and minds of our children rages on. A friend of ours in Idaho once said that in our society today children have had more parents than parents have had children, man how true.
We are called irresponsible or not a good steward if we don't have a great financial portfolio. And if our families and our community are falling apart around us, well it's in God's hands don't worry. To tell the truth, I'm sick and tired of hearing that it's in God's hands. The God of Abraham Issac and Jacob, the God of the universe, the God that sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins is a God of action, not a scape goat. I can't believe how often I hear, God is in charge, Don't worry it's in God's hands.
The God I read about inspires us to action not into passive waiting as God is in charge. There definitely are times when we are to wait on the Lord, but sometimes it seems like an excuse not to do anything. I keep remembering that famous quote that says, "for evil to prevail, all it takes is for good people to do nothing." No wonder we no longer have prayer in our schools. No wonder money, position and image are the rule of control. We have bought into the cowards mentality that we can sit back and enjoy, don't worry, don't do anything rash, or anything that may upset the apple cart because God is in control and nothing we do will make a difference anyway.
We can make a difference in our communities, we don't have to let our youth be taken over by all the negative influences that are out there. We can join together to make a difference by offering them the positive and esteem- building choices that will give them a strong and productive future with more hope than any drug dealer will ever give them.
I read this in a newsletter the other day, a bit radical, but sometimes we need a wake up call like this, I found it very interesting to say the least.
By Bojidar Marinov

I refuse to be comforted. I refuse to listen to sermons and leaders that assure me that “whatever happens, God is in control.” I refuse to read and listen to pastors, authors, and leaders that comfort me with God’s peace when everywhere around me I see God’s war.

When they banned prayer in schools, the Christians in this country were assured that in these “last days” that’s what was expected to happen. They were supposed to take comfort in the fact that Jesus was coming soon. He didn’t. And while Christians were learning to be comforted with this open attack against their faith, Roe v. Wade came. Again, words of comfort followed. Meanwhile, tens of millions of unborn children died in this government-sanctioned sacrifice of infants. Only a precious few brave men and women stood against it; the majority were comforted that “whatever happens, God is in control.”

The pulpits never gave a call for action.

They started cracking down on Christians by passing laws to silence Christianity: “Hate speech,” “separation of church and state” and all the other mantras. In a nation that was founded to proclaim the blessings of Christ, Christ was now pushed out of public life. Pastors, leaders, authors and theologians responded by . . . more comforting words. “See? He must be coming soon! 1968! No, 1988! 1989! 1996! Have comfort!”

No call for action.

Christian children were ridiculed and ostracized in schools and universities. Their faith was mocked by professors who knew nothing about their fields of study but knew everything about Marx’s Communist Manifesto. The churches started losing their young men and women by tens of thousands every year. Colleges and universities that were established to nourish and expand the Christian religion and knowledge were now openly enemies of Christ.

Again, the pulpits were silent. Except for a few comforting words. God surely must be in control.

We don’t even notice anymore when things like that happen. We are so comforted that we don’t even think of raising our voice in protest anymore. We surely value our peace and comfort—that’s what our leaders have taught us.

We have become comfortably numb.

But I refuse to be comforted. I refuse to believe in peace when I see God at war. I refuse to believe that God makes all these things happen only to teach me that He is in control and nothing else. I refuse to believe that these are blessings when I know very well they are curses. And I refuse to accept curses for comfort.

The Bible tells me that God teaches my hands to war. And my hands are itching for a fight. I don’t want to sit idly when the heathens are taking over God’s earth. I want to be out there defending it. I want my pastors and leaders to lead me, not comfort me. I want them to teach me to fight and overcome. There must be instructions for victory in the Bible. I mean, real victory, not abstract dreamy “victory” of being rescued in clouds.

The Angel of the Lord didn’t comfort Gideon when he was threshing wheat. “What are you doing, mighty warrior? Hiding like a rat?” Elijah did not comfort his generation; he asked many uncomfortable questions: “Who you are going to serve, God or Baal?” The prophets did not deliver messages of comfort to Israel; they called Israel to war, to action, to repentance.

This great country, the United States of America, was not founded on sermons of comfort. The Pilgrims and the Puritans didn’t stay back in England and find comfort in the fact that “whatever happens, God is in control.” They took action. The political architect of the American Revolution, John Witherspoon, President of the College of New Jersey and signer of the Declaration of Independence, considered by most people of his time to be the “spiritual father” of the colonies, did not comfort his spiritual children; to the contrary, he worked tirelessly to instill a message of discomfort and urgency in them:

There is not a single instance in history, in which civil liberty was lost, and religious liberty preserved entire. If therefore we yield up our temporal property, we at the same time deliver the conscience into bondage.

Had he comforted them, the USA could have never been founded. And we wouldn’t have the freedoms we have today.

I want to have the same spirit as the Founders. And therefore I want my pastor to be like John Witherspoon. Don’t comfort me; teach me to fight and win.

Many pastors I have talked to complain of the growing influence of “para-church” organizations. No wonder. If churches give no message of victory, someone else will. And they will gain influence. People follow leaders, not drug-traffickers. And messages of comfort and peace in times of discomfort and war are nothing more than anesthetic, a narcotic to escape reality; and those who preach comfort and peace when there is no comfort and peace are spiritual drug-traffickers, not spiritual leaders.

Therefore I refuse to be comforted.

1 Corinthians 15:58 (New International Version)

58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Tuesday's Trivia

We have to be living in God's winter wonderland, what a sight to look outside and see the big snow flakes falling this morning and seeing everything as white as can be. Should be on the slopes! Had a great snowball fight with our dog Rapture but he soon gave up. We were hoping to load the trailer with another load of lumber that was donated, but we had to wait until the snow stopped so we could get the forklift over to the warehouse. We are so thankful to the guys over at Redline Harley Davidson for the use of their forklift to load all the lumber. We also were very blessed as we were asked today to present the plan and vision for the ranch to the Lloydminster Ministerial Association. They were all very encouraging and supportive. We were approached by one person that was representing his church, to volunteer to teach auto body repair, another asked if we would speak to their young adults and the another pastor would like to talk to us more about speaking to some business people in Saskatoon about the Ranch plan.
Well, the snow let up and we got the forklift over to pick up the lumber, then Caleb and I got all the lumber loaded and secured down, then we took the forklift back to the Harley shop before closing time. Another super huge blessing to the Ranch is our new office girl, Peggy Huber. She brings her skills of organization and even her niece, Jen. and as a powerful prayer warrior to the office desk of the Battle River Ranch Project is just such and asset to us. In just two days she has done so much to help us get more organized and keep on top of the many duties that need to be done to keep us moving ahead.
After supper we were once again off to a meeting to help organize the fund raiser for Jessie Moffat that God has placed on the hearts of His people to help one of our own to overcome this hurtle in Jessie's life. We are so blessed at Lloydminster Gospel Fellowship for hearts that seek to serve our community and those who are in need. The fundraiser and auction will be Saturday April 10 / 2010 at the Lloydminster Gospel Church at 6:00 pm. We were also blessed with several friends of Jessie's from his home church, First Baptist were he sometimes leads worship. Jessie also leads a young adults Bible study at his home every week. The many friends from Jessie's home church that also see Gods purpose for this event are helping us with this fundraiser. What a blessing that we can all work together to lighten the load of one of our own in need.

1 John 3:18 (New International Version)

18"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."
