Friday's New Years Eve Frenzy

"He hath made every thing beautiful in His time:"
~Ecclesiastes 3:11~

A New Year - A New Beginning

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that
which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down,
and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;"
~Ecclesiastes 3:1-4~

God only promises us today. We don't know what is ahead of us. But God knows.
He doesn't always show us what is in store for us or even if we will have a tomorrow.
So we should live our lives as if each day is the last.

How terrible it would be to live your whole life and in the end be full of regret.

What a privilege we have as Christians. We don't have to trust in ourselves or our
New Year Resolutions. There really is no such thing as LUCK. For God is a God
of order and plan. He knows us better that we know ourselves. He even
knew us before we were born. (
Psalm 139). We can trust in the Lord.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of
peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me,
and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek
me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be
found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather
you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith
the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you
to be carried away captive."
~Jeremiah 29:11-14~

The words in the above verse are so very comforting. The Lord "KNOWS" the
plans He has for us. He is Omnipotent and Omnipresent. The study of the
Character of God is such a awesome Bible study. Just that He KNOWS. I
also am reminded of the verse when Abraham asked who He was and God
answered "I am that I am". He is and we are. Isn't that so profound
and yet amazing at the same time.

When I look at the vastness of the universe that the Lord God created I am
overwhelmed with His love for me. What comfort, what peace and yes what joy.
To think that He would have sent His son to die just for me and you.

We can daily go to God and ask for forgiveness and He wipes the slate clean.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
~1 John 1:9~

Thank you once again for taking the time to view our blog. The Battle River Ranch Camp is a non profit organization that is focused on developing trades, life skills and training opportunities for men and women that are searching and find it difficult to get the opportunities needed to develop a productive life skill. Many men and women today have no idea what they could be good at or how to find out their possible skill area or level. We are a faith based training center.

Harold and Diane Stephan left a life filled with addictions and bad choices. Their journey has taken them through different twelve step programs and life recovery through a relationship and healing process with Jesus Christ. If it were not for caring people in their lives that never gave up on them or thought they were a hopeless cause they too would still be lost.

We would love to hear from you and if you feel this is a program and facility that would help you or someone that you know, or you would like to be more involved with a ministry like this or support it financially we would love to talk to you and would very much appreciate your help in what ever way you can.

This is a ministry for those that have a heart and desire to make a difference in the lives of others with the skills and gifts they have been blessed with and have a desire to pass on what they know to the next generation.

You are always welcome to visit and we look forward to your input. This ministry is prayer based, and we pray daily for the needs of others, if you have a need for prayer and not sure where to start give us a call and we will confidentially support and help you in this area. You may not know a lot about God but God knows everything about you and He loves you more than anyone can or ever will.

God Bless You and Your Family!!!

Thursday A Day of Change

O God of all beginnings and endings,
We praise and thank you for the gift of this year with you .
It has been a time filled with grace and blessings,
With challenges and opportunities, joys and sorrows.

The days have passed quickly, O Lord.
The weeks, the months, the seasons, the holidays and holy days,
The seeking, obeying, and building, all have come forth from your hands.

While we trust that your purposes have always been at work each day,
Sometimes it has seemed difficult to understand and appreciate
Just what you have been up to out at the ranch

Give us the word the refreshment we needed.
Let our efforts of this past year bear fruit.
Bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion,
And bless us, according to your will,

With the fulfillment of our visions, hopes and dreams.
Watch over us in the year ahead,
And guide each day as you have done this past year.
Help us return to your plan with a new spirit and a new energy.

As we build the Kingdom of God

Amen.

Once again with all our hearts we thank you for what is a miracle forming before our eyes, and the blessing, that we get to be a part of as we do the will of God. We all have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those we love and to build hope for the next generation with all that we have been blessed with. Some of you have said,"I don't have much to help with", but it's not how much you help with, it's the condition of our hearts that God works with, and as He sees us use what ever we have to do His work here while we can that's when the miracles happen, all for the cause of Christ? It's that fork in the road, the channel we can use, and a choice among many that God gives us every day to be kingdom builders. God bless you all Harold, Diane and the Board of directors of the Battle River Ranch Camp.

Wednesday 's blessings

Met some great folks that we found out live here from our home town. Lee and his family treated us like royalty as we spent the evening sharing about old times and telling them all about the ranch project.

The very idea of just giving money away injures the heart of capitalism, right? "Why should I part with my hard-earned money," you may say. "I've worked hard for it and I intend to keep it." point, but let me explain some things to you.

1 - Helping others give you a sense of pride knowing that you have the means to let go of some of your wealth and still have plenty left for your needs.

2 - It feels good to know that someone is worse off than you are. Taking a look occasionally at all you have gives you more of a perspective on how fortunate you really are.

3 - If you can part with money, you know that money isn't the most important thing in your life.

4 - Think of it as a kind of hedge fund. If you contribute now, the organization will still be there for you in the future if you or your loved ones should have to use its services such as a "Save the Trees" charity. After all, we will all want to breathe in the future!

5 - If you have faith in a cause, as the old adage goes, "Put your money where your mouth is." Support what you believe in. The charity cannot survive long if people like you fail to support it monetarily. Ask yourself how you would feel if that charity did cease for lack of support, your support. You may have a moral responsibility here, so take time to consider the consequences of your actions or neglect thereof.

6 - To some, the best reason of all is that you can take most donations off your taxes. This fact alone may be all you need to donate more than just your time. This gesture of generosity comes right back to your own advantage and you don't have long to wait for the old "what goes around, comes around."

7 - Just knowing that someone is benefiting from your kindness can be a self -validating experience. You know that you have intrinsic value but it's nice to have it reaffirmed.

8 - Being a part of something larger than you yourself can give you a kind of comfort or sense of belonging.

9 - Caring gets your mind off your own troubles, for awhile anyway.

10 - Remember the phrase "Charity begins at home"?
Well, it begins in your home.
You know what will happen if you leave the funding of your favorite charities in the hands of other people.
It may or may not get accomplished.
You don't want the future of your charity to be left in the hands of strangers. This argument alone should get you running to phone, grabbing the nearest pen and your checkbook, or getting online to donate something somewhere.

If you are considering donating to your favorite charity, remember to give what you can. Don't be cheap, but don't "give the farm away" either. Be generous, but don't cause yourself financial hardship. You don't want to become a recipient of the charity to which you have just donated.

In a time where many of you may be struggling to have your day-to-day needs met, we need to join together in prayer for God's provision and strength.

Prayer for Provision, Contentment, and Strength

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means and I know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learrned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. ~Philippians 4:11-13
Lord, it is Christ who gives us strength to continue to move forward. God, give us strength. Often we feel that we can't go on another hour let alone another day. It seems we can't bear it anymore. Oh God, but you bore it on the cross. Your Son bore our suffering on the cross at Calvary. Give us His strength. Strengthen us through Christ Oh Lord.

Lord, in the trials, Lord we need to trust in you. Even through the tears, we look to you, Oh God. Even through the momentary suffering, we have confidence in You Alone, Oh God. Hear your servants, and answer the cry of our hearts.
Many that are following this prayer may have never called out to you Lord but now find themselves comforted in your presence. Bless them as they too come to you for understanding as to why life is the way it is and in the search for answers it's you and you alone that can fill that void.
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Terrific Tuesday

Our boiler system that Joey, Blaine and James set up and got going is working very well and we have a comfortable environment to work in out at the ranch. Horses are all doing very well and God has some very exciting plans in store for us in the new year. We have many meeting and presentation coming up soon and all with folks that see the potential for the help the ranch will be to a lot of men and women in our communities.

Christmas is such an opportunity for adults to pretend that they are helping kids but really the chance to play with such incredible lego toys is a lot of fun just ask our grown sons.

Our home was a constant place of activity, with friends and families coming and going, what a blessing.

PRAYER FOR COURAGE

Almighty God, who gives strength to the weak and upholds those who might fall, give us courage to do what is right, for those that trust in you have no need to fear.

Make us brave to face any danger which may now threaten us.

Give us the help that you have promised to those who ask it, that we may overcome our fears and go bravely forward.

Fill us with courage, that nothing which is our duty to do, may be too hard for us. Let us put our trust in your power and goodness.

Thank you my Lord.

Monday Can't Beat That Day

The Lonely Girl

Bare foot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by. She never tried to speak, she never said a word. Many people passed, but never did one person stop, several would pause and point but just like myself who had time for these types of people. Well it just so happens, the next day I decided to go back to the park, and surprised to find the little girl was still there. Right in the very spot as she was yesterday, she sat perched on a high area, with the saddest look in her eyes.

Today I would do something very out of the norm, and and walked over to the little girl. As we all know, a park full of strange people is not a place for young children to play alone. As I began walking towards her, I could see the back of the little girl's dress indicated a deformity. I figured that was the reason the people just passed by and made no effort to help. As I got closer, the little girl slightly lowered her eyes to avoid my intent stare. I could see the shape of her back more clearly. It was grotesquely shaped in a humped over form.

I smiled to let her know it was OK, I was there to help, to talk. I sat down beside her and opened with a simple Hello. The little girl acted shocked and stammered a "hi" after a long stare into my eyes. I smiled and she shyly smiled back. We talked 'til darkness fell and the park was completely empty. Everyone was gone and we at once were alone.

I asked the girl why she was so sad. The little girl looked at me and with a sad face said, "Because I'm different."

I immediately said "that you are!" and smiled.

The little girl acted even sadder, she said, "I know."

"Little girl," I said, "you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent."

She looked at me and smiled, slowly she stood to her feet, and said, "Really?"

"Yes, dear, you're like a little guardian angel sent to watch over all those people walking by."

She nodded her head "yes" and smiled, and with that she spread her wings and said, "I am. I'm your guardian angel," with a twinkle in her eye.

I was speechless. Surely I was seeing things. She said, "Finally, for once you thought of someone other than yourself, now my job here is done."

Immediately I stood to my feet and said, "Wait, so why did no one stop to help an angel?"

She looked at me and smiled, "You're the only one who could see me, and you finally acted from your heart." And in an instant she was gone.

And with that my life was changed dramatically. So, when you think you're all you have, remember, your angel is always watching over you.

Mine was.

WHY WE PRAY AND HOPE THAT
YOU WILL GIVE JESUS A CHANCE

THE LIFE YOU REALLY WANT AND CAN HAVE IS UP TO YOU

HERE'S ALL YOU NEED TO DO AND WHY

DON'T WAIT ANOTHER MINUTE TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT AND HERE'S WHY
#1
Because you have a past
You can't go back, but He can. The Bible says, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8) He can walk into those places of sin, failure and hopelessness, wipe the slate clean and give you a new beginning. A beginning with a real and lasting future, full of hope.
#2
Because you need a friend
Jesus knows the worst about you, yet he believes the best. Why? Because He sees you not as you are, but as you will be when He gets through with you. What a friend!
#3
Because He holds the future
Who else are you going to trust? In his hands you are safe and secure - today, tomorrow and for eternity. His word says, "For I know the plans I have for you ...plans for good and not evil, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray I will listen". (Jeremiah 29:11-13 TLB)

If you'd like to start over, with a new beginning with Jesus today, Diane, I, the board of directors, volunteers and supporters of Crossman Ministries and the Battle River Ranch Camp would ask you, if you are looking for a new beginning to please pray this prayer:

LORD JESUS CHRIST
I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. I ask Your forgiveness and now turn from everything that I know is wrong. Thank You for dying on the cross for me to set me free from my sins. Please come into my life and fill me with your Holy Spirit and be with me forever. Thank you Lord Jesus, Amen.

If you have made this commitment and would like to make contact, please call us. We'd love to talk to you and help in any way we can.

We are praying for all of you reading the blog every day.

Motorcyclists - the Fun of a Christmas Toy Run

Bob Friesen interviewed by Kevin Miller

christmas motorcyclists toysIt’s every driver’s worst nightmare. You look in your rear-view mirror and see a pack of bikers revving their engines behind you. As you pull over to let them pass, however, you note that in addition to the typical burly men sporting skullcap helmets and tattoos, this “gang” also includes teenagers, senior citizens and other ordinary folk. Despite the diversity in appearance, they all share one thing in common—they’re carrying sacks on the back of their bikes. What gives?

toy run christmas motorcycleThe truth is, this isn’t a gang at all. It’s merely a group of participants from the Fraser Valley Toy Run, an annual event for motorcycle enthusiasts in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. “The purpose of the ride is to raise money and toys for the local community, from Hope to Langley,” says Bob Friesen, who participated in the ride for the first time this year. A manager of a meat department by day, Friesen has been riding for 30 years. He appreciated the opportunity to use his hobby for a higher purpose. “It’s also a fun time to be with other people that enjoy doing the same type of thing you do.”

Over 1,200 bikers participated in this year’s ride, the 22nd running of the event, which took place on October 17. One group started in Mission, the other in nearby Chilliwack. They converged in Abbotsford, which is roughly halfway in between, for fellowship and refreshments. “You get a lot of funny reactions along the way,” says Friesen. “Some people are frustrated at having to wait for us to pass. But most are excited to see so many bikers in one place.” By the time the ride was over, they had raised over $40,000 in toys, cash and gift certificates.

But the Toy Ride isn’t just about helping kids. It also provides an opportunity for bikers from all sorts of different backgrounds to gather together and admire each other’s bikes and trade tips and stories. “It’s a pretty broad group,” says Friesen. “There were bikers for Christ. And then there were other guys who, if they weren’t already members, were probably pretty close to being Hell’s Angels.” Friesen says the group also included one rider who was only 16 and another who was 83. No matter their background, all of the riders were united by their love of riding and their desire to make a difference in their community. “Everybody wants to do something for a kid,” says Friesen.

As a Christian, the ride also had a higher purpose for Friesen. “Part of what we need to do as Christians is get out and be with people who aren’t. The Toy Ride is a great opportunity to do this, to make some non-Christian friends and share our lives with them.”

If you’d like to participate in next year’s Toy Ride, you can contact organizer *Lenore Hopkins, who lives in Chilliwack. If you don’t live in the Lower Mainland, perhaps you’d like to consider starting a toy ride in your community. It’s an ideal opportunity to share your love of riding—and the Lord—with the people around you.

THE ARMOUR OF GOD
Ephesions 6:13-19
Therefore we put on the full armour of God
so that when the day of evil comes we may be able to stand our ground, and after we have done everything to stand, we'll stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around our waists.

Lord we put on the belt of truth. We choose a life style of honesty and integrety. Show us the truths we so desperatley need today. Expose the lies we're not even aware that we are believing.
With the breastlate of righteousness in place. And yes Lord, we wear your righteousness today against all condemnation and corruption. Fit us with your Holiness and Purity, defend us from all assults against our hearts.

And with our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. We do choose to live for the gospel at any moment. Show us were the larger story is unfolding and keep us from being so lax that we think the most important thing today is soap opera's of this world.
In addition to all this, we take up the shield of faith, with which we can exstingwish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Jesus we lift against every lie and every assult the confidence that you are good, and that you have good instore for us. Nothing is coming today that can overcome us because you are with us.

We take the helmet of salvation. Thank you Lord, for our salvation. We recieve it in a new and fresh way from you and we declare that nothing can seperate us now from the love of Christ and the place we shall ever have in your Kingdom.

And we take the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Holy Spirit, show us specifically today the truths of the word of God that we will need to counter the assults and snares of the enemy. Bring them to mind throughout the day. And we pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, we'll be allert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Finally, Holy Spirit, we agree to walk in step with you in everything -- in all prayer as our spirits commune with you thoughout the day...

We also pray, that when ever we open our mouths, words may be given to us so that we will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen

Saturday So Blessed so about Jesus

The Innkeeper's Tale

by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson

Josef Seeking Lodging in Bethlehem, by J.J. Tissot
"Josef Seeking Lodging in Bethlehem" (1896) by James Jacques Joseph Tissot (French painter and illustrator, 1836-1902), watercolor

They think I'm some kind of cruel, heartless landlord. Someone must have told them that. But they're wrong, just plain wrong, and it's time to set the record straight, once and for all.

People say I'm an innkeeper. I suppose you'd call it an inn. To us it's just a big house. My grandfather, Joshua ben-Yahoudi, built it back when his trading business was at a peak. And he built it big enough to fit all fourteen kids.

Well, a few years ago, the missus and I were just rattling around in that big house--kids grown up and all--and we were thinking, maybe we could take in a few travelers. Rachel has always been mighty good in the kitchen, so we just let out word that we'd take people in, and they started to come. Every night we'd have a person or two, sometimes more. People would always come back when they came to town again, intent on another bowl of Rachel's lamb stew.

Then came that blankety-blank census the governor thought up. Taxation, pure and simple! People from all over the province flooded into town that week. Filled us clean up. Rachel and I slept in the main room where we always do, and we started putting guests in the other three rooms. They kept coming. Then we doubled up two or three families to a room. They kept coming. Finally, when we had filled the main room with four families plus Rachel and me, we started turning people away.

I must have gotten in and out of bed ten times that night, stumbling over bodies to get to the door. "No more room, sorry folks. No more room. Come back in the morning. We have a couple of families leaving then." They'd mutter something and head back to their party, and sleep somewhere next to a house under the shelter of a blanket. I just couldn't make any more room. That's the honest truth.

But I did make room for one more couple. Joseph was a burly man with big arms and strong hands, down from Nazareth, I think he said. He wouldn't take "no" for an answer. I would say, "No, I'm sorry," and he'd tell me about his "little Mary." Well, when I saw "little Mary" she wasn't very little. She was just about as pregnant as a woman can get, and awfully pale. While Joseph was pleading, I saw her grab her tummy in pain, and I knew I couldn't let her have that baby outside in the wind and sleet.

The barn. That would just have to do, I told myself, and led them and their donkey out back. Now it was pretty crowded, so I shooed several animals into the pen outside to make room in one dry corner. Joseph said, "We sure are grateful, sir." Then with a serious look, he asked me, "Do you know where I can find a midwife in these parts? We might need her tomorrow or the next day."

That man didn't know much about having babies, it was plain enough to see. I ran to Aunt Sarah's house and pounded on the door until her husband came. "One of the travelers is having a baby," I told him. "I'll wait while Aunt Sarah gets dressed." I stopped a moment to catch my breath. "And tell her to hurry."

By the time we got back to the barn, Joseph had "little Mary" settled on some soft, clean hay, wrapped up in a blanket, wiping the perspiration off her brow, and was speaking softly to her as she fought the waves of pain. Aunt Sarah sent me to get my Rachel, and then pushed Joseph and me out of the barn. "This ain't no place for men," she said.

We waited just outside in the shelter of the barn for hours, it seemed like. Well, all of a sudden, we hear a little cry. "You've got a baby boy," Aunt Sarah was saying as we peeped around the corner. She hands the young-un to Rachel, and she wraps it up in those swaddling bands she had saved. Cute little thing, I tell you.

Well, Joseph goes over to Mary and gives her a big hug, and a kiss on the cheek, and Rachel hands Mary the baby, and then comes over to me and takes my hand. "Remember when our Joshua was born?" she whispers.

The lantern was blowing almost out, the cattle were lowing softly, and baby Jesus was asleep in his mother's arms. That's how I left them as I walked Aunt Sarah home. Chilly wind, though the sleet had stopped.

By the time I got back, Rachel was in bed, and I was about ready to put out the light, step over sleeping bodies, and get under the warm covers, when I heard some murmuring out by the barn.

I'd better check, I told myself. When I peeped in, I saw shepherds. Raggedy, smelly old shepherds were kneeling down on the filthy barn floor as if they were praying. The oldest one was saying something to Joseph about angels and the Messiah. And the rest of them just knelt there with their heads bowed, some with tears running down their faces.

I coughed out loud, and Joseph looked up. I was almost ready to run those thieving shepherds off, when Joseph motioned to me with his hand. "It's okay," he whispered. "They've come to see the Christ-baby."

The Christ-baby? The Messiah? That was when I knelt, too. And watched, and prayed, and listened to the old shepherd recount his story of angels and heavenly glory, and the sign of a holy baby, wrapped in swaddling bands, to be found in a stable-manger.

My Lord, it was my stable where the Christ-baby was born. My manger he rested in. My straw, my lamp, my wife Rachel assisting at his birth.

The shepherds left after a while. Some of them leaned over and kissed the sleeping Christ-child before they departed. I know I did.

I'll always be glad I made room in the barn for that family-- that holy family. You see, I'm not some mean inn-keeper. I was there. I saw him. And, you know, years later that boy came back to Bethlehem, this time telling about the Kingdom of God. Oh, I believe in him, I tell you. I was there. And, mark my words, if you'd seen what I've seen, you'd be a believer, too.

The Magi Visit the Messiah

1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’

Matthew 2 (NIV)

6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’

7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Lord we know that You are the only perfect parent. Thank You for loving our children more than we ever can or are able to. Thank You for listening and inspiring our prayers for our children. Help us to be faithful in standing by you as You provide the answers, strength and peace. Help us to see our part in this situation that our child is in, and to have the courage to do what ever we can and must do to help him or her. We confess our wrongs to you and ask that you redeem us and create in us a new heart. A heart that loves our children unconditionally. Help us to forgive each other and our children, and to understand that they are made in your image and you love them dearly. Dear Lord let this be the prayer of an obiedienty and fully commited heart. We now, and always allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into all understanding. In Jesus name we pray Amen

Colossians 4:2
Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanks giving.

Thursday A Day of Change

Matthew 1:18-25 (NIV)

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Heavenly Father, You have been pleased to let me be called by the name that is yours from all eternity. Help me to be worthy of that name. May I always be for my children a source of life---phisical, intellectual, and spiritual. Help me to always contribute in great part to their physical growth by my work, to their mental advancement by good education and to their spiritual life by my prayer and example, so that they may become complete human beings and true children of their heavenly Father.
Let me be conscious that my actions are far more important than my words. May I always give my children a good example in all the situations of life. May I wear my successes modestly, and may my failures find me undaunted; may I be temperate in time of joy and steadfast in time of sorrow. May I remain humble after doing good and contrite after doing wrong.
Above all, may I scrupulously respect my children's rights as human persons and their freedom to follow a rightly-formed conscience, while at the same time fulfilling my duty to guide them in the way given us by your Son Jesus. Amen.
