A father of a five-year-old boy sat down with a big bowl of chips and dip
to watch his favorite sporting event of the year: the Grey cup.
Halfway through the second quarter, his young son was bored with
his books and began asking the kinds of questions little boys ask:
“Why do they wear helmets?” “Does anyone die in this game?” “When
is this over?” “Can we go to the park?” The father soon realized that
he would not get to watch the game in peace unless he could find
something constructive and challenging for his precocious son to do.
He looked down to see a copy of the New York Times with a map of
the world covering an entire page. He reached for some scissors and
cut the large page into whole lot of pieces. He handed his son a roll of
tape, the cut up newspaper, and said in a warm and empowering tone,
“Show Daddy how smart you are. Put this puzzle of the world
together. I will time you!” He smiled to himself, knowing full well his
son loved a challenge and would not stop until he finished the project.
He also knew he would get to enjoy the game with peace and quiet.
Before the fourth quarter began, his son came back into the room
with a self-satisfied grin on his face. The map was all taped together,
not particularly neat, but a fine job for one so young. A little
surprised, he asked his son, “How did you put it together so fast?” The
son, obviously proud of his accomplishment and sensing his father’s
appreciation, stated, “Oh, it was easy Dad; A picture of Jesus was on the
other side. When I put Jesus together, the world was all together.”
The son was surprised by the big hug his dad gave him, followed by
the declaration, “That’s right son; when Jesus is all together, his
world is all together automatically.”
That is a good lesson for all of us to remember.
This story reminds me of a trip Diane and I took on the Harley a Few years ago. We had finished our lunch with some good freinds in Calgary and headed towards Banff till we got to the highway that headed north to Rocky Mountain House where we turned. As we were heading north we were praying that God would give us an opportunity to minister to someone on our ride that day, the same as we do on all the rides we do and God always puts people into our path to share with. Well, as we were riding along on that beautiful day we came to some hills and curves in the road. About 2 miles ahead of us was another rider and as we were heading into a curve the rider ahead pulled over and stopped. As we approached him he was cussing up a storm and kicking his bike. We pulled over to see if we could help and when he turned back to look at us it didn't take him but a second to see were Christians and his voice changed real quick. I got off of our bike and asked him if there was anything we could do to help. He said, "I'm not sure" He said it had lots of gas and that he's never had this happen before so he wasn't sure what to do or what could be the problem. But after we talked a bit he started to talk a bit differant and soon he asked where we were from and then he mentioned about us being Christians. Soon our conversation led to him telling us that he was a Christian also but was not living the life he should be and how everything in the last year or so was such a mess in his life. So Diane and I asked him if we could pray for him and he was more than pleased to let us pray with him. After a time of prayer right there out on the side of the road he recommitted his life and said he had to get his life right with God again or things would never get better. We gave him the names of a few Christian Riders out of Red Deer and then we asked if we should get some help for him and his bike. He than said these words " no thanks I think my bike is going to work just fine." He then started it up and was on his way. God is so good, after he rode away Diane said that was so awesome, we thanked the good Lord for that oppertunity to serve him in helping one of His lost sheep back home. P.T.L. We all can make a differance each and every day if our focus is on the needs of others and we do whatever we can with what God has put into our hands to be used for His purpose. Just let Him know you're available and He'll open the doors for an opportunity to share.
SO TODAY WHY NOT GET FIRED UP AND GO FOR IT AND HELP US MAKE A DIFFERANCE
